Sandakan :- The MPS Jawatankuasa Pasar, Tamu dan Penjaja conducted an inspection yesterday at several Pasar Ramadan locations from Mile 8 to the town coastal highway area.

Among those present during the inspection were MPS councillors Chong Thien Ming, Liew Kian Vun, Mohd Ali and Fung Yee Soon, together with Head of the Market Unit Ahmad Naquip and Market Unit officer Puan Sanisah.

The team visited six locations out of the eight Pasar Ramadan sites listed under the council.

The main purpose of the inspection was to check on vendors’ compliance with health requirements, the operational conditions of the stalls, and to compare pricing among vendors.

Councillor Chong Thien Ming, who led the councillor team, said they were generally satisfied with the overall condition of the stalls, although some improvements are still needed.

He added that inspectors from the Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia (KKM) are also conducting regular checks on food handling and hygiene conditions.

“We want to ensure that all food sold to the public is in acceptable and safe condition, as food poisoning prevention is a major concern,” Chong said.

Strict regulations have been imposed on all vendors from the beginning of the Ramadan bazaar operations.

Vendors who fail to comply with these regulations may face fines or even termination of their licenses to operate during this Ramadan period.

The Jawatankuasa team assured the public that monitoring will continue throughout the Ramadan period to ensure that food sold at the bazaars remains safe for consumption.
