Warisan Inanam approaches youth on 40 percent issue

Lewis Wong…hopes there will be good news when the decision and solution regarding the special 40 percent allocation is presented on September 12.

INANAM :  Warisan Inanam wants to approach young people to enlighten them about Sabah’s rights as enshrined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

The party’s focus is on the special allocation of 40 percent of the Federal revenue to Sabah which is part of the demands of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

Warisan Inanam DUN’s officer Lewis Wong said that many young people still do not understand the various demands related to Sabah’s rights in MA63 and the impact on them as well as the future of the state.

The issue, he said, is not new in Sabah’s political and administrative history but is less well known among the youngsters because it has not been highlighted or made a priority for so long.

“Now thanks to several Sabah politicians who are concerned, we can now see the content of the demands in MA63 on many media platforms. But sadly, we also realize that many of those rights are increasingly being eroded.

“When we see many rights being eroded, we feel the need to defend the rights recorded in the document. To defend it, we must have enough knowledge,” he said on Saturday.

He admitted that even many older people in their 50s do not know much about the MA63 issue, especially the most pressing issue now, which is the demand for 40 percent of Sabah’s revenue.

“We are getting poorer because they have ripped up our wealth. At the same time, many of our rights that should have been in MA63 have been eroded. They are also manipulating the rights of the people to determine Sabah’s future,” he explained.

This state he said, must continue to demand the 40 percent of Sabah’s revenue from the federal government because it is one of the rights enshrined in MA63.

According to Lewis, this demand is very important to Sabah and if the federal government agrees to pay, the money from the 40 percent collection that is being demanded can be used to develop and advance Sabah.

He said the issue is very relevant to everyone because any decision related to it will determine the future of Sabah in terms of the development of its economic sector and infrastructure.

“Therefore I urged all young people to start reading so that they will be more knowledgeable on issue related to MA63 and any issues related to this state. Let us be more mindful of our rights,” he stressed.

In related developments, Lewis hopes there will be good news when the decision and solution regarding the special 40 percent allocation is presented on September 12.

The special meeting is focused on the 40 percent issue under Articles 112C and 112D of the Federal Constitution and the meeting committee is currently at the stage of examining the details of the Sabah government’s recommendation.

In the meeting, several solutions will be decided on either interim or otherwise.

For the Inanam constituency, Lewis said, Parti Warisan is always concerned about the problems that arise there, especially regarding development and social problems.

Issues such as garbage, the problems faced by hawkers in Tamu, and the worsening road congestion in the town will be Warisan’s priorities to resolve if it becomes the government again.

In this regard, he said, Warisan wants to reach out to these young people and wants to listen to their aspirations and want to share the opportunities available to them.
