PENAMPANG : – The Democratic People’s Welfare Party (KDM) is beginning to gain encouraging support in the Moyog state constituency as the State Election (PRN) draws nearer.
Moyog KDM Coordinator, Gundohing Ts. McKery Victor, said that the people’s response has been positive following the establishment of several new KDM branches across villages in Moyog.
“The people of Moyog have long hoped for leaders who remain close to them beyond election seasons.”
“By engaging directly with the community, listening to their voices, and understanding their struggles, I believe KDM is slowly building trust here in Moyog,” he said.
When asked about the possibility of contesting as a candidate, McKery responded with humility:
“As a son of Moyog, I am ready to serve if entrusted by the party leadership. For me, the most important thing is not about position, but ensuring that the people have leaders who genuinely work for them.”
McKery highlighted that among the main issues faced by the community are recurring flash floods, worsening traffic congestion, limited capacity at the Penampang Health Clinic, and the need for more youth opportunities.
“If given the mandate, I will focus on long-term solutions – addressing flooding with proper planning, reducing congestion through alternative routes, advocating for a larger health clinic, and creating more opportunities for our youth. These are basic needs that cannot be ignored,” he explained.
He further stressed that the upcoming election is an opportunity for the people of Moyog to consider fresh leadership.
“KDM is more than just a political party – it is a people’s movement to uplift the grassroots. Whatever the outcome, what matters most is that the voices of the people are heard and respected. We are here to serve, and I am grateful for every support and encouragement given so far,” he said.
Currently, the Moyog state seat is represented by Datuk Darell Leiking of Warisan, while other figures such as Datuk Donald Mojuntin of PH are also expected to contest.
“We should not fear competition. Winning or losing is part of democracy. At the end of the day, it is the people – especially the youth – who will decide the future of Moyog,” McKery concluded.
