Peter Anthony’s appeal case setback doesn’t weaken KDM

Priscella…instead it fuelled KDM’s determination to spring a surprise in the forthcoming PRN17.

KOTA KINABALU : – The Court of Appeal yesterday ‘s decision not in favour of Democratic Community Welfare Party (KDM) Datuk Peter Anthony does not weaken the party.

KDM acting president Priscella Peter, stressed that the party remains steadfast in its struggle despite the court ruling.

She said that this decision does not weaken their resolve.

Instead, she stressed it fuelled their  determination to create a surprise in the upcoming 17th State Election (PRN17).

“Honestly, we are disappointed (with the court’s decision); we are disheartened because new evidence, namely a police report clearly indicating that KDM’s president (Peter) was wronged, was disregarded.

“Despite our disappointment, we accept the court’s ruling, but this does not diminish our spirit; we will continue our fight, and we will not retreat even an inch,” she said when contacted today.

Peter’s application for a review to overturn his conviction and sentence for falsifying documents related to maintenance and service contracts at the University of Malaysia Sabah (UMS) in 2014 was denied yesterday.

As a result of this ruling, the conviction and the three-year prison sentence along with a RM50,000 fine imposed by the Sessions Court, which were upheld by the High Court and the Court of Appeal against Peter, remain intact.

Following yesterday ‘s ruling, Peter, who is the Melalap assemblyman, is likely to lose his seat as he has exhausted all legal avenues to set aside his conviction and sentence.

Meanwhile, Priscella, who is also the Deputy President of KDM, stated that the party is committed to contesting independently in the upcoming PRN17.

She said that they are prepared to face any opponents, especially the current government, which is the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS).

“The KDM party is increasingly accepted by the people of Sabah, and wherever we hold our programs, we receive an extraordinary response.

“Not only that, many leaders have started reaching out and approaching us; they are beginning to believe in KDM’s struggle and are confident that this party will create surprises and change the political landscape in Sabah.

“We are also confident that the government led by GRS will fall during PRN17; you can hear the ‘voices’ of the people of Sabah at this moment,” he said.
