Key matters needs to be considered in the Technical Committee on MA63

KOTA KINABALU: Former Petagas assemblyman Datuk James Ligunjang said it is important to identify any breaches in the Federal Constitution that require correction or amendment in order to align with the provision agreed upon in the Inter-Governmental Report and Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

According to him, that would be the first of three important matters that should be taken into consideration by the Technical Committee on the MA63.

In his latest social media post, Ligunjang also stressed the need to determine the precise financial entitlements that the State of Sabah is due, particularly in relation to the allocation of 40 per cent of all revenues collected by the Federal Government from Sabah.

Additionally, he expressed his opinion that the Technical Committee on MA63 should pay attention to the implementation of the Borneonisation policy of the Federal Service in Sabah, as outlined in the 20 points agreement.

Ligunjang, a Justice of Peace, said Sabah asserts its constitutional right to receive 40 per cent of the revenue collected by the Federal Government.

Meanwhile, UPKO president and Member of Parliament for Penampang Datuk Ewon Benedick has been appointed as a minister to assist Deputy Prime Minister II Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof on the Sabah’s Malaysia Agreement 1963 affairs.

After the recent Federal Cabinet reshuffle, it was decided that Ewon would be in charge of Sabah and Malaysia Agreement 1963-related matters, while Datuk Seri Aaron Ago Dagang will be for Sarawak. They received their appointment lettesr from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim last week.

Ewon, who is also the Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives was quoted as saying that his new role is related to the MA63 in the context of Sabah, which includes addressing relevant questions in the Dewan Rakyat and Dewan Negara. – Talantang
