KOTA KINABALU: Political activist Datuk James Ligunjang said GPS Sarawak has earned significant respect from national coalitions such as PN, Harapan, and BN due to its unwavering commitment to autonomy in selecting a national government that truly embodies Malaysia’s values.
The former assemblyman for Petagas said the support of GPS Sarawak is vital for any federal coalition seeking to secure an overwhelming majority.
“Within Sarawak, the internal coalition, which consists of multiple parties, sets a benchmark for political solidarity as the State strives to develop towards prosperity,” he said in a statement today.
He pointed out that for GRS Sabah to gain comparable esteem from these national coalitions, it must strengthen its local coalition framework and align its objectives with those of GPS Sarawak.
Ligunjang, who is also a Justice of Peace, added that it is time to put an end to the tradition of national coalitions interfering in Sabah’s political landscape.
“Preserving the autonomy and respect of the state should be of utmost importance, disregarding any political agendas aimed at integrating representatives from national coalition parties such as BN, PN, and PH into the state’s assembly or governance structures, ” he said.
By taking this approach, not only will autonomy and dignity be respected, but homage and respect will also be paid to the spirit of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 that our forefathers signed for.
