KOTA KINABALU: The Double Six Tragedy, which claimed the lives of Sabah’s Chief Minister and his cabinet members, remains a poignant reminder of their dedication to serving the people of Sabah.

Their tragic passing in an air crash while working to protect the interests of their state is a loss that continues to be felt deeply by their families, their communities, and the entire state of Sabah.

It is important that we honor their sacrifice and remember their contributions.

Declaring the anniversary of the tragedy as a public holiday in Sabah would be a fitting tribute, providing an opportunity for reflection and remembrance.

The presence of the current cabinet members at the memorial ground would demonstrate respect for their fallen colleagues and offer condolences to their families.

It is disheartening to note the absence of cabinet members at past commemorations, with the exception of Datuk Dr Jeffrey K. Kitingan, who has consistently honored their memory.

In the future, it is important for the Yang di-Pertua Negeri, the Chief Minister, and all members of the cabinet to attend the annual observance.

This would be a powerful symbol of respect, demonstrating a commitment to remembering and honoring those who served Sabah with dedication and distinction.

Their presence would send a clear message that their legacy is not forgotten and their sacrifice is deeply appreciated.
