Cecilian’s Class of ’74 celebrates 50th golden reunion

SANDAKAN :- Cecilian’s girls of Class ’74 converged in Sandakan on June 21, 2024 to
celebrate their 50th Golden Reunion.

It has been 50 years since these
ladies left their alma mater, St Cecilia’s Secondary School, then as inquisitive, adventurous teenagers now to return as “Golden Girls” muchwiser, more experienced and still very much young at heart.

This 50th Golden Reunion has been made possible by a dedicatedorganizing committee led by Suzanna Hon Su Lan.

The team started work way back in 2023.

Work began with reaching out to as many classmates as possible and the word was out “We are celebrating our 50th Golden Reunion”.

Face to face meetings and zoom meetings were held to ensure the success of this once in a lifetime reunion.

The 50th Golden Reunion celebration was a 3 days affair and it started off with a Welcome Dinner on 21st June at Citi Club.

The next day saw the girls paying a visit to their alma mater which gave them the
opportunity to walk down memory lane.

They were welcomed by the school Principal, Chong Su Kiong, teachers and students.

During this visit the Class of ’74 donated 2 sets of computers and printers to the school.

Amidst their joyous celebration the girls did not forget the less fortunate.

They took time off to pay a visit to The Sandakan Cheshire Home and presented gifts to the residents and the centre there.

The climax of the celebration was the 50th Golden Reunion Gala Dinner held
at the Sabah Hotel Grand Ballroom.

On the third day, some of the more active girls went on a hike while others lounged around to do more catching up.

To round up the celebration a Farewell Dinner was hosted by the Sandakan girls on 23rd June 2024.

Girls from as far as the USA, Canada, New Zealand, Peninsular Malaysia and all parts of Sabah met again some for the first time since
they left school.

The girls came with great anticipation of renewing old friendships from years gone by and to catch up with the present.

Excitement filled the air as the girls gathered in the Sabah Hotel Grand Ballroom.

Laughter rang throughout the hall as they reminisced and indulged in enjoyable recollection of their memories in St Cecilia’s
Secondary School some 50 years ago.

Life stories were shared and updated throughout the night. Friendship bonds were reestablished and strengthened.

During the dinner, entertainment was provided by none other than the girls themselves.

Their lively and energetic performances of song and dance belied their years.

Also present at this momentous dinner were the current principal of St Cecilia’s Secondary School Chung and his 2 assistants and also 6
former teachers, Dora Ho, Lena Chan, Grace Chang, Mathew Liaw and his wife, Brian Phang and also Liew King Hee
and his wife.
