KOTA KINABALU: In a concerted effort to promote safety and preparedness during the wet season, the group calling themself the Concerned Filipino Professionals Sabah (CFPS) have taken a proactive stance in advocating for flash flood safety measures among Filipino residents in flood-prone areas of Sabah.

The recent flash floods that wreaked havoc in Penampang and neighboring areas have spurred CFPS into action, calling on fellow countrymen to prioritize safety precautions in the face of natural disasters.

Led by the pioneering founder, Nikko Fabian, CFPS has been at the forefront of raising awareness and extending assistance to those affected by the recent floods.

Nikko’s unwavering commitment to community well-being has garnered widespread attention and support, emphasizing the importance of safety and preparedness in mitigating the impact of flash floods.

Drawing upon his expertise and genuine concern for the welfare of Filipinos and local communities, Nikko has outlined five crucial guidelines to navigate the unpredictable nature of flash floods.

Urging residents to seek higher ground immediately when faced with a flash flood, he emphasizes the importance of swift action to prevent individuals from being trapped in rising floodwaters and ensure personal safety.

Nikko highlights the significance of avoiding water contact, advising residents to refrain from swimming, walking, or driving through floodwaters to mitigate risks associated with hidden dangers and uncertain water depths. He recommends using a long stick to gauge water depth for enhanced safety and awareness.

During evacuations, Nikko stresses the importance of shutting off all electrical, propane, and gas sources in homes to minimize potential hazards during flooding situations. Recognizing the vulnerability of children during flood events, he urges parents to keep their children away from floodwaters to prevent exposure to sharp objects and contaminants that may pose health risks.

In addition, Nikko underscores the need to avoid standing on bridges and unstable structures during flash floods, urging residents to seek stable ground and evacuate promptly if stranded. By amplifying these essential safety guidelines, CFPS’s call for vigilance and caution resonates strongly with Filipino residents in flood-prone areas, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing safety and preparedness during flash flood incidents.

As a beacon of guidance and support, Nikko’s unwavering advocacy serves as a poignant reminder of the significance of community resilience and unity in the face of natural disasters. The collective efforts of CFPS and Nikko Fabian reflect a growing momentum towards flash flood safety awareness and preparedness among Filipino residents in Sabah, fostering a culture of safety and solidarity in times of crisis.
