KOTA KINABALU: In the wake of the recent devastating floods that have affected several areas in Sabah, including Penampang, Inanam, Tamparuli, Kiulu, and Menggatal, the Sabah Law Society (SLS) has extended a helping hand to the victims by offering free legal advice.
SLS President Mohamed Nazim Maduarin, announced that victims of the major flood can seek legal guidance at the SLS office located at Menara MAA in the city.
The SLS secretariat will be available to provide advice every Saturday from 9 am to noon, assisting victims in understanding their rights, exploring legal options, and guiding them on the steps to take moving forward.
Expressing empathy towards the victims and acknowledging the significant damage and losses incurred, Nazim emphasized SLS’s commitment to supporting individuals during these challenging times.
The initiative aims to empower flood victims by equipping them with the necessary legal knowledge and resources to navigate the aftermath of the disaster effectively.
In light of the widespread destruction caused by the floods, various organizations and individuals have stepped forward to offer assistance to the affected communities. Penampang MP Datuk Ewon Benedick, PGRS Moyog office, Dream Centre Penampang, and several other charitable organizations have provided aid in the form of house cleaning services, electronic device repairs, car cleaning services, and waived labor charges for vehicle repairs.
The outpouring of support from the community and social media platforms has been remarkable, with donations ranging from essential items like clothing, bottled water, mattresses, to other daily necessities being offered to the flood victims. The solidarity and generosity displayed by individuals and organizations reflect a collective effort to alleviate the hardships faced by those affected by the natural disaster.
As the recovery efforts continue and victims strive to rebuild their lives, the legal assistance provided by SLS serves as a valuable resource for individuals seeking guidance and legal recourse in the aftermath of the floods.
The proactive approach taken by SLS underscores the importance of community support and legal aid in times of crisis, reaffirming the commitment to assisting and empowering flood victims in their path towards recovery and restoration.
