A Sabah former lawmaker says toxic online behaviour is undermining Sabah’s political conversations
Datuk James Ligunjang believes that in today’s digital age, social media has become a powerful platform for political discourse.
“However, it is alarming to see how frequently discussions degenerate into vitriolic attacks and hateful rhetoric, ” he said in a posing in social media today.
The Sabah Justice of Peace, who is ex-assemblyman for Petagas, pointed out that toxic behaviour are often perpetuated by individuals or groups hired to spread such narratives.
He claims that this behavior is not only toxic but also detrimental to healthy discourse on the important issues and challenges affecting Sabah.
“When discussions are filled with hatred and personal attacks, the potential for constructive dialogue diminishes, he said.
Ligunjang added Instead of fostering an environment where different ideas can be debated and understood, ,”it creates a toxic setting where meaningful conversation is overshadowed by negativity.”
