KOTA KINABALU (Friday Aug 6): Datuk Ewon Benedict said that the Sabah and Sarawak political parties have unanimously agreed to keep Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as Prime Minister, affirming there will be no change in the Federal Government.
The United Kinabalu Progressive Organisation (UPKO) president said that in a series of meetings of the Unity Government Secretariat chaired by the Prime Minister and attended by all party presidents who form the unity government, they also agreed to keep Anwar as Prime Minister.
“Parties from Sabah and Sarawak including GPS from Sarawak and GRS from Sabah also agreed to mandate that YAB (Datuk Seri Anwar) continue to be Prime Minister so that the unity government in the federal government continues.
“I attended the meeting as the president of UPKO and fully support the decision because we are confident that Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who leads the multi-racial party, understands the spirit of togetherness, the spirit of all Malaysians,” he said after a Businessmen’s Meeting, in Tanjong Karang Selangor Saturday.
Ewon said that certain parties’ claims of a change in the Federal Government after the election are just a ploy to mislead the people.
“After the Party Hopping Act was passed in Parliament and gazetted, and after the Yang di-Pertuan Agong appointed the current Prime Minister, rest assured that there will be no change in the Federal Government,” he said.
Regarding the elections in the six states, Ewon said that in addition to helping Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) candidates in Selangor, his party machinery also helped PH candidates in Negeri Sembilan and Kedah.
“Then we will go to Terengganu to help PH and BN candidates win this election.
“If necessary, I will speak from Sabah’s point of view, why people support the prime minister and the unity government,” he said.
Ewon said strong support for unity government leadership is crucial to ensure political stability is maintained, people’s well-being and economic development are properly carried out.
