Highlights of the festival include a custom-designed bamboo pavilion in collaboration with UCSI University KL’s School of Architecture and Built Environment, to be constructed on top of the RDC lake.

The pavilion brief took inspiration from water village homes which are iconic of coastal Sabah and employ sustainable building materials such as bamboo.

Regional experts, scientists and NGOs will come together to showcase their work and engage the visiting public in person. Many other international guests will also join us over video links.

Complementing the science will be artists of contemporary renown; Ernest Zacharevic of Georgetown UNESCO Heritage site fame, Kenji Chai – Sandakan’s own mural star and Yee I-Lann, a champion of Sabahan community craft, bringing collaborative art to museums around the world.

Outdoor activities will include tree climbing, abseiling from canopy towers, obstacles courses, bamboo rafting, and much more.

The evenings’ musical showcase will feature Bil Musa, Tuni Sundatang, lost spaces, and many more talents and DJs.

Borneo ROR Fest will also include our first, Force of Nature costume run on the 22nd Sept.

A 3km, fancy dress run encouraging people to venture into our forest in their most creative and outrageous costumes for a bit of fresh air, friendship and tree hugging.
