KOTA KINABALU: Thousands of people from all walks of life came as early as dawn to celebrate the inaugural National Day and Sabah Day parade along Jalan Tun Fuad Stephens here today.
The ceremony began with the arrival of the Head of State Tun Juhar Mahiruddin and wife Toh Puan Hajah Norlidah Tan Sri RM Jasni who were greeted by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor and the organising chairman, Minister of Finance Datuk Seri Panglima Masidi Manjun.
The Head of State later inspected the guard-of-honour and witnessed the oath-reading ceremony and choir performance, followed by the procession.
The march past kicked off with the procession of the Jalur Gemilang and Sabah flag as well as the flags of all the states in Malaysia.
A total of 185 contingents representing the security forces, government department and agencies, uniformed bodies, associations and schools took part in this year parade.
