KOTA KINABALU: The State Government emphasises youth development, and in line with the Sabah Youth Policy a total of RM16.9 million has been allocated to implement the Sabah Youth Leadership Development Programme, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor.
He said the programme encompassed voluntarism and social unity activities.
“The government would also continue to provide resources for the implementation of various programmes for our youths, including leadership, skill and entrepreneurship training.
“Youth development schemes like the Sabah Youth Entrepreneurs Successful Scheme or SYABAS will continue to support our young entrepreneurs in kick-starting and strengthening their entrepreneurial initiatives,” he said at the opening of the Sabah Moto Day 7.0 at the Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) drill field near here today.
Expressing delight with the 50,000 attendance including from Brunei and Peninsula Malaysia, the Chief Minister said he would propose to the State Government to include the Sabah Moto Day in the state’s tourism calendar.
The event at UMS is the biggest annual two-wheel motorsport programme, which has been eagerly waited by enthusiasts in Sabah and neighbouring states, he said.
“I believe this programme would encourage youths to be involved in beneficial activities to sway them from illegal racing activities, strengthening ties and create awareness on the dangers of drug abuse besides promoting motorcyclists safety to the public,” he said.
The Chief Minister commended the Sabah Moto Day 7.0 organisers since many beneficial programmes have been lined up during the two-day event in conjunction with the Malaysia Day celebration mainly targetting the youths.
“The presentation of contributions to the Tuaran Orphanage with the Sabah Anti Narcotic Squad will encourage our youths to do charity work and contribute to the needy.
“I am confident that this programme will foster unity among the youths in the two-wheel motorsport and instil noble values in line with the event’s objective.
“In line with the government’s commitment to nurturing youths as the next state and national leadership echelon, I hope programmes such as this will continue to be organised,” he said.
