KOTA KINABALU : –  Sabah Tourism Board (STB) chairman Datuk Joniston Bangkuai has proposed exploring the idea of a creators camp following the success of the Tumimung digital content event.

Organised by the STB, the homegrown event gathered 70 participants, including social media content creators, product owners, and tourism association representatives, for discussions and networking sessions.

In his closing speech at Shangri-La Tanjung Aru Resort on Friday (Sept 27), Joniston suggested that holding a creators camp outdoors could be an exciting way to build on Tumimung’s success.

Tumimung is a Dusun word meaning “to gather” or “berkumpul”.

“Imagine gathering creators in an outdoor setting that showcases our beautiful destinations rather than being confined indoors.

“It would spark creativity, offer a unique experience, and promote Sabah in ways that benefit everyone involved,” said Joniston.

He further suggested expanding participation to include Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia creators, enhancing collaboration and idea-sharing.

The two-day Tumimung event featured insightful panel discussions and sharing sessions.

Shangri-La Tanjung Aru Resort Marketing and Communications Director Claudina Wong and Traverse Tours Sales and Marketing Manager Valentine G. Willard discussed working with content creators.

Content creators Mem Umie of Mem Umie Jalan-Jalan Travel and Tour and Pison Jaujip of Ropuhan Di Tanak Wagu shared their journeys from content creators to product owners.

Other notable speakers included Zachary Yeoh of TikTok Malaysia, who presented a case study on ‘The Evolution of Content’, School of Ultimate Learning founder Ann Osman, who spoke on ‘Content Creation’, and Adam Shamil, who discussed ‘Building Your Brand.’

The event concluded today (Sept 28) with a fun outdoor city hunt activity.
