Kiulu to be a Tourism Township – Joniston

Datuk Joniston Bangkuai joining the community to clean Kiulu township during the Program Gotong Royong Madani Pekan Kiulu Monday

KIULU : – Kiulu assemblyman Datuk Joniston Bangkuai has suggested two new tourism initiatives here – a tourism township and establishment of a tourism cooperative at SMK Tun Fuad Stephens.

Given that Kiulu has over 80 tourism operators, it is fitting to designate Kiulu town as a tourism township  while a cooperative could help the local secondary school benefit from the influx of international students visiting for summer camps.

“We already have a tourism information centre in Kiulu and its only proper we turn Kiulu town into a tourism township,” Joniston said at the Program Gotong Royong Madani Pekan Kiulu here, on Monday.

The Assistant Tourism, Culture, and Environment Minister also said a cooperative could enable the SMK Tun Fuad Stephens to play an active role in the local tourism sector by hosting and organising activities for visiting students.

“A cooperative would give SMK Tun Fuad students practical experience in tourism, helping them engage with international visitors and benefit from Kiulu’s growing popularity as a summer camp destination.

“This will not only bring financial opportunities but also help students build skills in hospitality and management that can further enrich their educational journey,” he added.

About 300 participants, including SMK Tun Fuad students, took part in a Gotong Royong Madani event to clean up and improve the local environment.

In another development, Kiulu is set to benefit from a significant infrastructure upgrade with the approval of a vehicle bridge connecting Kiulu and nearby Bayag.

“The Public Works Department (JKR) informed me that the federal govenment has approved construction of the vehicle bridge which, when completed, will pave the way for the expansion of the relatively congested Kiulu township.

“This will open opportunities for the construction of a new police station, fire station, low-cost houses and new shophouses,” said Joniston, adding that, according to JKR, the bridge’s construction will start early next year.
