Social activist support  Salleh’s suggestion on re-registration of MyKad, managed by the Sabah government

Dr Kanul Gindol…courageous and genuinely compassionate Sabah government can implement this.

KOTA KINABALU: Social activist Gundohing Dr Kanul Gindol has voiced his endorsement of the proposal for all original Sabahans to re-register their MyKad under the management of the Sabah government.

He described the proposal as an excellent initiative, emphasising that transferring the authority for MyKad registration aligns with the objectives outlined in the 1963 Malaysian Agreement (MA63).

“A courageous and genuinely compassionate Sabah government can implement this,” he said in an interview with Jesselton Times.

Former Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Salleh Said Keruak introduced the idea yesterday, suggesting that re-registration for original Sabahans would help resolve various documentation challenges, including issues related to the burung-burung documents.

Salleh emphasised the importance of having the Sabah government oversee the entire registration process.

“In Sabah, there exists a multitude of documentation types, including burung-burung documents. Therefore, it is essential to reevaluate the entire registration framework. We have been submitting proposals to Kuala Lumpur and have even formed a committee to tackle this matter.

“In the end, we contest the data. Why not allow our state government to manage it? All stakeholders should be engaged to prevent any political manipulation,” Salleh stated.

Additionally, Kanul expressed his belief that all long-term residents in Sabah should be granted legal documentation.

“No one should be perpetually pursued and exploited; that is profoundly inhumane,” he concluded.
