KOTA KINABALU : – Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) has formed a committee to look into the proposed merger with Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR).
The decision was made at the PBS Supreme Council meeting yesterday, the party information chief Datuk Joniston Bangkuai said in a statement issued here today.
The establishment of the committee follows informal talks between the two parties’ leadership to explore the possibility of merging.
The meeting chaired by acting President Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Joachim Gunsalam, gave the task of heading the committee to its Tawau Member of Parliament Datuk Lo Su Fui.
PBS and STAR had in April this year signed a Memorandum of Understanding to cooperate in facing the State election, which is due to be held in October next year.
Last week, the parties’ Joint Leadership Council (JLC) held its second meeting to firm up its collaboration, including identifying the seats it hopes to contest and drawing up a strategic plan.
The committee, whose members include several lawyers, would look into the technical aspects of the merger, among other things.
Other key decision made at the meeting was to postpone the party election scheduled for next year in view of the impending State election.
