KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hajiji Haji Noor has reminded state civil  service  personnel to  ensure  good  governance  in the  government’s  document  control system.

“Control of the government documents is the basic element for us to ensure transparency, accountability  and  efficiency  in  managing  official  government  documents,  records  and information.

“All official government documents must be managed in line with the Official Secrets Act 1972 and Security Order.

Hence, all civil service personnel with access to government documents, especially classified documents, need always to be aware and ensure document security to avoid  leakage  of  government  information,”  he  said  when  chairing  the  Chief  Minister’s Department post-cabinet meeting at Menara Kinabalu today.

“I  am  issuing  this  reminder  because  there  were  instances  where  classified  government documents have been leaked,” he said.

The Chief Minister warned action would be taken immediately against those responsible for doing so.

Hajiji also called upon all civil servants to carry out their responsibilities and roles with full commitment, adhere to the principles of integrity and accountability and strive to provide the best service to the people.

“Civil servants must always comply with all laws, regulations, policies and guidelines set by the Government.

“Apart from that, civil servants as the “backbone” of the State Government administration must maintain work ethics, professionalism, behaviour and confidentiality to improve the government’s image and the people’s trust,” he said.

The Chief Minister earlier informed  heads of the department in the CMD that the State Cabinet had approved the implementation of the I-MDNET system, which would allow minutes of State Cabinet meetings to be accessed effectively and efficiently in real-time beginning in January of next year.

“Access would be given to all department heads to allow each department to provide feedback on Cabinet decisions  to the Cabinet and Policy Division (BKD) promptly,” he said.
