Unmasking a Political Conspiracy in Sabah

Ligunjang…UMNO’s demand for the Chief Minister Datuk Haji Hajiji Haji Noor’s resignation clearly indicate their involvement in the plot.

KOTA KINABALU : – Datuk James Ligunjang said the political landscape in Sabah is becoming increasingly turbulent.

The former assemblyman for Petagas alleged that UMNO is orchestrating efforts to destabilise the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) government.

According to him, these destabilisation efforts appear aimed at pushing for a leadership change or dissolving the State Assembly to prompt early elections.

“A whistleblower from Pahang is set to play a significant role in this unfolding conspiracy by alleging corrupt activities among GRS assemblymen,” Ligunjang added.

He said the whistleblower reportedly possesses covert recordings detailing conversations about payments made to persuade GRS assemblymen to support his applications for mineral prospecting licenses in Sabah.

Ligunjang said it was reported that a total of 20 licenses have been applied for, covering an area of 1 million hectares of pristine forest, much of which is designated as a forest reserve.

He said the goal seems to be to dominate the mineral industry in Sabah, ostensibly with backing from a former CEO of a mineral prospecting company.

Ligunjang, who is a Justice of Peace, said,” One pressing question arises: why is there a need to prospect such a vast area? “

“Are there ulterior motives, such as timber theft in collaboration with corrupt officials, that could lead to the destruction of Sabah’s unique and vital natural habitats?”.

He further pointed out that It was important to recognise how intertwined political and criminal conspiracies can undermine state governance.

“Following public calls for a government change by the President of UMNO, videos surfaced on social media alleging corruption among GRS assemblymen, suggesting they were accepting favors in exchange for supporting licensing applications linked to this cartel,” he said.

Fortunately, Ligunjang said the Chief Minister’s vigilance and dedication to protecting the state’s interests have thwarted these dangerous schemes, leading to the annulment of licenses that serve only the interests of outsiders rather than the people of Sabah.

“The demands from UMNO for the Chief Minister’s resignation, despite his efforts to safeguard the state from exploitative businessmen and rogue officials, clearly indicate their involvement in the plot,” Ligunjang added.

He said the Chief Minister’s commitment to the welfare of Sabahans deserves recognition and support.
