KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Electricity has been granted a subsidy amounting to RM161.7 million to cover the Imbalance Cost Pass-Through (ICPT) for the year 2024.
The Chairman, Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau, announced that the payment was received from the Federal Government on December 23.
He noted that this amount serves to reimburse the expenses incurred by Sabah Electricity in managing the ICPT costs.
“I would like to express my gratitude to the Federal Government for their attentiveness to the needs in Sabah. Additionally, our application was approved, allowing Sabah Electricity to continue providing energy supply in the region,” he said in a statement today.
Madius also acknowledged the Sabah Government for allocating a subsidy of RM50.9 million to Sabah Electricity.
“As announced by the Chief Minister on December 20, 2024, the exemption from the ICPT surcharge has been agreed to continue from January 1, 2025, to June 30, 2025.
“The Sabah Government has allocated RM50.9 million to help alleviate the burden on consumers. As the Chairman of Sabah Electricity, I extend my deepest thanks to the Sabah Government for their concern and this subsidy,” he explained.
Tangau, who is also Tuaran MP, had warned in November that Sabah could face a statewide blackout from next January without financial support from the federal government.
