Sabah PH urged to clarify stand on whether to align with BN for PRN17

KOTA KINABALU : – The leadership of Pakatan Harapan Sabah (PH), particularly from PKR, has been urged to clarify their stance regarding their planned relationship with Barisan Nasional (BN) Sabah in preparation for the upcoming state elections.

Sabah UMNO Election Director Jeffery Nor Momamed, emphasised the importance of this clarification following remarks from PKR Sabah leaders that were deemed disrespectful to the established rapport between BN and PH, especially within the context of the Madani government.

He was responding to comments made by PKR Sabah’s Information Chief, Razeef Rakimin, on social media, which warned other parties, including members of PH, against relying on PKR’s efforts in Tanjung Aru.

Statements of this nature should not be made, Jeffery argued, questioning the nature of the efforts being referenced and whether they were genuinely new initiatives or merely a continuation of past work.

He reiterated that the country operates under a democratic framework, allowing anyone to run for office, regardless of party affiliation.

“If PH Sabah believes there is no need to consult with BN Sabah regarding the contested seats, they should clearly state their intended relationship with BN Sabah,” Jeffery stated.

He added that UMNO Sabah is focused on the welfare of the people, who are currently facing numerous infrastructure challenges.

“The issue of seats and candidates is secondary to what we can offer the people of Sabah,” he remarked.

Previously, PH Sabah expressed support for the GRS led by Datuk Seri Hajii Noor, which is also open to collaborating with PH for the upcoming elections.

It is worth noting that BN has been a key coalition in forming the unity government led by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at the federal level.

In the last Sabah state elections, PKR secured two seats in the Inanam and Api-Api constituencies.
