Election Commission  ready for Sabah State Election

KOTA KINABALU : – The Election Commission (EC) is ready for the 17th Sabah State Election.

Its chairman, Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun, stated that all preparations have been made to ensure the election process runs smoothly.

“Regarding preparations for the Sabah State Election, which is set to be called before end of the year, the EC is fundamentally ready. In fact, all machinery at the grassroots level is prepared to conduct the election at any time, ” he said.

Tun Musa advised the EC to ensure the election process proceeds smoothly to uphold peace and political stability in Sabah,” he told the media after paying a courtesy visit to the Head of State of Sabah, Tun Musa, at Istana Seri Kinabalu on Wednesday.

During the visit, Ramlan congratulated Tun Musa on his appointment as the new Head of State of Sabah.

Also present were EC Secretary Datuk Ikmalrudin Ishak and Sabah Election Office Director Rohiman Rahia.

Sabah’s ruling coalition, Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), is scheduled to hold a special meeting this Sunday to discuss seat allocation for its component parties for the 17th State Election.

Its chairman, Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, said the meeting would also look into the coalition’s preparations for the state election, as well as other issues related to its component parties.
He said among the main agenda of the meeting is to decide the seat allocation for GRS (component parties).

GRS comprises eight component parties, namely Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah, Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP), Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS), Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Sabah STAR), United Sabah National Organisation (USNO), Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah (PHRS), Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and Parti Cinta Sabah (PCS).

The 16th Sabah State Election was held on Sept 26, 2020.
