SANDAKAN : – The Head of State Tun Datuk Seri Panglima (Dr.) Musa Haji Aman commenced his two-day official visit to Sandakan today.
His arrival at Sandakan Airport was greeted by nearly 2,000 residents from the Sandakan district.
The warm welcome Tun Musa continued with a luncheon held in his honor at Dewan Sri Libaran.
More than 6,000 people from various ethnic backgrounds attended to celebrate his arrival.
Among those present at both events were the Minister of Community Development and People’s Well-being, Datuk James Ratib, Members of the State Legislative Assembly, the President of the Sandakan Municipal Council, Mr. Walter Kenson, community leaders, and heads of state and federal government departments.
Tonight, Tuan Yang Terutama Tun will host a formal dinner at his residence in Sungai Kayu.
Several ministers, assistant ministers, elected representatives and community leaders are expected to attend the event.
Tomorrow, Tun Musa is scheduled to attend a briefing on the delayed Islamic Centre Project at Sungai Kayu.
The project, launched seven years ago, has faced delays due to unknown reasons.
Once completed, the Islamic Centre is expected to become a significant landmark in Sandakan, bringing numerous benefits to the local community and beyond.
Given its religious, economic, social and tourism impact, the completion of the Islamic Centre is highly anticipated.
Authorities and stakeholders are expected to discuss measures to overcome the delays and expedite the project’s progress.
