A total of 19,344 Sabahans work in the civil service in Peninsular Malaysia – Dr Zaliha

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 19,344 Sabahans are currently working in the Federal Civil Service in Peninsular Malaysia.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territory), Dr Zaliha Mustafa, said the amount was based on data from the Human Resources Information Management System (HRMIS) as of 5 October 2024.

“This Sabah-born officer works in various ministries or departments,” he said in a written reply to Datuk Seri Panglima Wilfred Madius Tangau (UPKO – Tuaran) during the Oral Question session of the Dewan Rakyat, here, on Wednesday.

In his question, Madius asked the Prime Minister to state the number of staff from Sabah working in the Peninsula.

“Is the government aware that many of them want to be placed on duty in Sabah, and what are the government’s steps to solve this matter,” he stressed.

According to Zaliha, the government allows federal civil servants (employees) born in Sabah who want to transfer to Departments – State Federal Departments and are interested in being placed in Sabah.

“However, it is subject to a number of conditions including the officer’s service scheme, vacancy in the requested placement location, and the officer having served for three years in the current placement.

“In addition, it also depends on the position of the order (queue) of the request for a change to the location or state applied for, and the availability of replacement officers to replace the places that will be vacated,” he explained.

Zaliha, who is also a Member of Parliament for Sekijang, said that the change of officers also needs to be in line with the principles of change and work rotation.

He said, it is by taking into account the latest position of public officials such as the grade and seniority of the officer, expertise in the field of specialization, experience and criteria that meet the requirements of the duties of the position in the location or state to be posted.

“For non-commissioned officers, exchange matters are managed by the respective Ministries.

“Among the steps taken by the Government through the Malaysian Ministry of Education in solving this matter is to provide an online medium for teacher exchange applications, the Teacher Exchange Module (eGTukar),” added Zaliha.
