KOTA KINABALU : –  The Sabah Renewable Energy Conference (SAREC) 2025 serves as a platform for collaboration, innovation, and forward-thinking policies to drive the state’s transition toward a sustainable energy future.

Qhazanah Sabah Berhad (QSB) Chairman Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob said, the conference underscored the urgency for clean, sustainable, and affordable energy. Sabah, rich in renewable resources like solar, wind, and hydropower, is uniquely positioned to lead in renewable energy development.

He said, these energy sources have the potential to drive economic growth, enhance energy security, and reduce carbon emissions significantly.

“Despite the opportunities, the transition presents challenges. Developing infrastructure for renewable energy requires substantial investment, innovative policies, and cross-sector collaboration.

“This is where government leadership is critical,” he said at the welcoming dinner SAREC 2025, yesterday.

He emphasized that renewable energy is not only an environmental concern but an economic imperative.

“This sector is one of the fastest-growing globally. By investing in renewables, we can foster new industries, spark innovation, and create jobs that benefit generations to come,” he added.

The Chairman also pointed out the importance of energy security, noting that heavy reliance on fossil fuels leaves countries vulnerable to disruptions and price volatility.

“Investing in renewable energy strengthens our energy independence and resilience,” he concluded,” he said.

Dr Yusof said, as SAREC 2025 continues, the conference is expected to foster deeper dialogue and partnerships that support Sabah’s ambition for a cleaner, more secure, and economically vibrant future.

He expressed deep appreciation to the distinguished speakers, moderators, and panellists for their commitment to leading pivotal conversations at the heart of SAREC 2025.

“We thank you for your presence and shared vision. Your perspectives are key to the growth and learning we hope to achieve together,” he said.

Dr Yusod said, the event also highlighted the role of Qhazanah Sabah Berhad, formerly known as Warisan Harta Sabah Sdn Bhd.

He added, established in April 1995, Qhazanah Sabah serves as the investment arm of the Sabah State Government. Under the guidance of the Ministry of Finance Sabah, the company operates as a strategic economic partner across key sectors to protect long-term interests.

“Collaboration between government-linked companies was emphasized as vital to building a resilient, future-ready economic ecosystem.

“We firmly believe that synergy through partnerships will enable Sabah to adapt with agility to both global and regional shifts,” said the Chairman.

SAREC 2025 will be officiated by Minister of Finance Sabah Datuk Seri Panglima Masidi Manjun, representing Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor, the Chief Minister of Sabah, today.

The conference promises to be a showcase of forward-thinking insights on the Renewable Energy landscape in Sabah from industry experts, financial players and regulators.
