KOTA KINABALU : – The 25-member Sabah Wushu team is in final preparations for the 14th National Youth KBS-KPM-AG Asia Wushu Championship, set to take place in Negeri Sembilan from May 29 to June 2.
Led by team manager Lee Tsun Kee and Sabah Wushu Association secretary Lee Hon Yu as advisor, the squad comprises 21 exponents and three coaches.
The delegation aims to surpass its 11th-place finish from last year’s event, where it secured three medals.
Sabah Wushu Association president Dato’ Chin Kim Hiung, who is also deputy president of the Wushu Federation of Malaysia, recently visited the team’s training ground to boost morale.
Expressing confidence in their readiness, he stated, “I am satisfied with the team’s preparations for the tournament,” which will be staged at the Dewan Negeri Sembilan Chin Woo Athletic Association in Seremban.
Team advisor Lee Hon Yu echoed optimism about Sabah’s prospects, hinting at potential upsets.
“The Sabah team will spring surprises against the other exponents,” he said, signalling ambitions to clinch medals.
In the 2024 edition, Melaka dominated with 61 medals, followed by Kuala Lumpur (36) and Johor (31). Sabah will seek to improve its standing in this year’s five-day championship.
