The untimely demise of Bernama journalist Nur Adika shocks the media industry in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: The media industry, especially in Sabah, has been deeply saddened by the unexpected death of Nur Adika Bujang, a correspondent for Benama Sandakan.

Today at noon, her lifeless body was discovered at her residence at Taman Perumahan IJM, Batu 6, Sandakan.

Nur Adika, who possessed a vast amount of experience and knowledge accumulated over the years, was confirmed to have passed away by her mother, Nafsiah Bubin, a former RTM Sabah DJ.

Colleagues and friends expressed their profound grief, recognizing her untimely departure as a significant loss to the industry.

At the age of 45, the late journalist had previously worked for the now-defunct local newspaper, New Sabah Times, before joining Bernama approximately two decades ago.

Former Editor-in chief of New Sabah Times Ch’ng Boon Heng said the late Nur Adika was a very dedicated reporter.

“Never said “NO” when asked to cover an event even at night when she was working as a reporter with new sabah times.

“She wants to be a good journalist. She worked hard and had set a good example for others.

“I believe her late father, a writer himself was her inspiration. Bujang was a New Sabah Times columnist,” he said.

Meanwhile, former Bernama Sabah bureau chief and Bernama TV editor, Newmond Tibin said that Nuradika is among the versatile journalists who excel in writing news in both Bahasa Malaysia and English.

He was shocked when informed of Nuradika’s departure around 2 pm today.

“The last time I met Nuradika was when we both attended the Kinabalu Press Nite in Kota Kinabalu at the end of last year and she seemed quite lively,” he said.

Newmond, who was responsible for bringing four local journalists from Sabah, including Nuradika, into Bernama two decades ago, said that Bernama Sabah has lost an experienced journalist in covering court cases.

“When I was the bureau chief, every time there was a major case in the High Court or Court of Appeal sitting in Kota Kinabalu, I often assigned Nuradika to cover the proceedings in English.

“This is one of Nuradika’s very significant contributions to Bernama,” he said, describing her passing as untimely.
