Calm and Moderation in GRS is paramount

Joniston…dissatisfaction must not be allowed to threaten the unity of the coalition.

KOTA KINABALU :  – Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) Information Chief Datuk Joniston Bangkuai said calm and moderation within the coalition is paramount, stressing that any concerns or dissatisfaction must not be allowed to threaten the unity of GRS.

While acknowledging that it is normal for parties in a coalition to have differing views, Joniston said these are best channelled and dealt with through internal dialogue.

Joniston believe that under the leadership of GRS chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Haji Noor, those differences would be handled with maturity and mutual respect.

Joniston was reacting to differing views that have surfaced within the coalition, prompting concern over unity and direction.

“I strongly believe that leadership in GRS is measured not just by political strength, but by the ability to listen, accommodate, and collaborate even in disagreement,” he said.

Joniston said engaging constructively is key to keep the coalition strong and focused.

“I strongly believe that it would be prudent for all component parties to approach any issues with unity in mind.”

“Whatever concerns we have, let’s bring them to the table, and thrash them out amicably,” he said.

Meanwhile, Joniston, who is also Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) Information Chief, reaffirmed PBS’s commitment to keeping the coalition grounded in unity and purpose.

“As a founding member of GRS, PBS recognises the value each component brings. Our diversity is a strength, and it must be guided by mutual respect and a common purpose.

“Our vision for Sabah’s progress must always rise above personal or party ambitions. That is the spirit in which GRS was formed, and the spirit we must uphold.”

Joniston added that PBS remains committed to playing a constructive role in ensuring GRS stays united and effective.

He hoped all component parties would exercise restraint and prioritize internal mechanisms for conflict resolution.

“PBS remains steadfast in its dedication to the principles of unity, mutual respect, and shared responsibility within GRS.”

“We are confident that by upholding these values, our coalition will continue to serve as a beacon of effective governance and a catalyst for positive change in Sabah,” said Joniston.
